PRE-REGISTER PETS AT HARDEE COUNTY'S PET FRIENDLY SHELTER

   Hardee County plans to open its first “pet friendly” hurricane shelter since the 2004 season. Bowling Green Elementary School at 4530 Church Avenue will be the new shelter, where pet owners can bring their pets during declared emergencies and shelter in the facility. Hardee County is asking residents with pets who may need to evacuate to their pet-friendly shelter to pre-register now. Please click the link below for the official press release.

PET FRIENDLY SHELTER REGISTRATION

   The Pet Friendly Shelter is available to Hardee County residents residing in a mandatory evacuation zone, RV, mobile homes or poorly constructed residence. Hardee County wants you to note that shelters should be used as a refuge of last resort. To pre-register your pet for the shelter, please click the link below.

PET FRIENDLY SHELTER REGISTRATION AGREEMENT RULES

   All Public shelters have established rules and the Hardee County Pet Friendly shelter is no exception. Please observe all posted rules, including the following:

  • Do not bring alcohol, illegal substances or non-prescribed medications to the shelter.
  • Only dogs and cats are accepted for sheltering.
  • All pets must have a kennel or carrier large enough for the animal to stand and turn around, space for two bowls and a litterbox for cats.
  • Owners must provide pet’s food (for at least five days), medications, treats, bedding, toys, etc.
  • Proper identification must be kept on all pets at all times.
  • All pets must be current on vaccinations.
